Testing for drugs at home
All about testing for drugs at home and the varieties of drug tests available. Occasionally drugs are a difficult subject in a lot of house holds. As you know drugs are illegal and the penalties for either possessing them or having them in your system can be drastic. There are many varieties of drugs, often with lots of ‘street’ names resulting in them being difficult to spot, by non-users, in conversation.
The most common drugs used are:
•Cannabis – puff, weed, draw, hash, marijuana
• Cocaine – crack, coke, charlie
• Methamphetamines – ecstasy, MDMA, E
• Amphetamines – speed, whiz, dexies, uppers
• Opiates – heroin, codeine, morphine
• Benzodiazepines – tranx, downers
• Methadone
Home drugs tests
The three main varieties of drug test are urine tests, oral tests and hair tests, each drug test tells us a different thing; a hair test shows a drug usage over months, a urine drugs test shows whether or not drugs are in the system over days and saliva (or oral) tests tell you if the person has taken any drugs within a few hours.
There are many different home drug testing kits accessible; there are single cassette urine tests, which can be used to test someone for cocaine, for testing cannabis and testing for opiates etc. There are urine test cups which are used to test for various types of drugs in one go, there are also saliva tests which also tests for several variations of drug. There are also hair tests which can test for a variety of of drugs, however these are usually expensive and they cannot be carried out at home.
What should you do if you think a family member is in danger of taking drugs?
Primarily it is most fitting to have a discussion with them and speak to them about it, try not to sound accusitive and tell them that you are worried about their health. If the individual denies taking drugs but you still believe that they are, ask them to do a drugs test to show they aren’t on drugs. Unfortunately, if they are on drugs they are less likely to do it unquetionably and unfortunately all these tests need the person’s cooperation. In this case it is recommended to get some advice from a doctor or a drugs specialist.
